Messages of Support for the Malaysian Airlines MH17 Tragedy

Arnaldo Nardone, ICCA President

It could have been any of us. Lufthansa, Air France, many of the major air carriers had been flying directly over the conflict being waged far below on the Ukrainian borderlands with Russia. But it was MH17 that horrifically was blown apart, adding nearly 300 victims to a conflict that has already destroyed thousands of innocent lives: killed, maimed, and driven from their homes.

I feel particularly sad that delegates travelling to the 20th International AIDS conference in Melbourne were travelling on this flight. Here were dedicated people from many countries, travelling to be with friends and strangers to find solutions to extraordinarily complex problems, their lives cut short by the violent actions of individuals who refuse to negotiate, compromise, or even try to understand each other, even though they are neighbours.

It is right that ICCA members and civilised people all over the world condemn utterly this awful act, and that we call on all parties in the Ukrainian conflict to meet together and commit to find a lasting, peaceful solution to the conflict. They owe this to the innocent victims of MH17.

Yours in sorrow.

Pieter van der Hoeven AM and Sieta, ICCA Honorary Member

Both Sieta and myself are grieving for the loss of so many innocent people with the tragic accident of MH 17. Condolences to all those who lost their family and friends. Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines will need to be strong in absorbing this great loss and will need and will get all the support from the global community to bring those who were responsible for this evil deed to account. Having flown the MH 16/17 flights over so many years on a regular basis, nothing will deter us to continue using these flights again in the future. We can not let a few evil people rule our destiny for the future, as the world is a much better place then what they represent and stand for.

Let us never forget .

Please pass on our message of condolence to all those who have been so innocently affected by this tragic accident.

Suprabha Moleeratanond and family, ICCA Honorary Member

To the families of MH17 passengers and crew members,

No words can adequately express the emotional pain one feels at such a sudden lost.  However, please rest assured that we, together with millions of people around the world are with you in this moment of grief.

ICCA Asia Pacific Office

On behalf of ICCA President - Arnaldo Nardone, ICCA Board of Directors, ICCA CEO - Martin Sirk, and all ICCA staff, we were deeply saddened by the shocking news that happened to Malaysia Airlines flight MH17. We hope that all of you and your loved ones are well and safe. The thoughts and prayers of the entire ICCA community are with you at this difficult time.

ICCA stands with our international family and sends out deepest condolences to the loved ones who have been lost in this tragic incident.

This loss involved many nationalities and indeed truly is an international tragedy. Thus, we hope that through our ICCA member relationship, in a small way we can reach out to one another during this painful time.

Leonie Ashford, Tourism New Zealand

Vibha Bhatia, Hyderabad Convention & Visitors Bureau

Heartbreaking news on the shooting down of MH17.Our thoughts & prayers are with the bereaved families of those who lost their lives on board Flight MH17

Gary Grimmer, GainingEdge

Our hearts are with the victims and their families. MH 17 touches our industry, too.  There were over 100 delegates to the AIDS congress in Melbourne (July 20 – 25) who were on that plane making their way to Melbourne.  Most of the delegates at that congress would know people who were lost.  I’m imagining a congress that has gone from celebrating progress on solving one of the world’s most important medical challenges to a congress that will, to some extent, become a wake.  Sometimes out of adversity comes strength – our prayers that they grow stronger. Blessings for the victims and hopes for peace in the Ukraine – and other places.

Jane Vong Holmes, GainingEdge

We grieve with families and friends of the victims and pray for closure and peace of mind. The Amsterdam-Kuala Lumpur route on MH was a frequent one utilised by ICCA staff members which makes this tragedy very poignant in my mind.

God bless you all.

Handan Boyce, Halic Congress Center, Istanbul

Dear ICCA friends,

I would like to extend my deepest sorrow and condolences for all Australian, Malaysian and Dutch citizen who lost their lives in the MH17 airplane tragedy.

I wish eternal peace to the victims and strength to their families and loved ones. Believing in our as in ICCA community's power to change for the better and for peace on earth.

I remain,

Martin Winter, Gold Coast Tourism

Words cannot fully  describe the sadness I have for the lives that were lost and for the friends and relatives of those on MH17. This senseless tragedy that ended the lives and destroyed the future of so many innocent people is indefensible, no matter what.

In this most difficult of times I offer is my sincere condolences to all in the ICCA community who have been touched by this terrible event. The world is united in condemnation of this callous act and in sympathy for the suffering it has caused.

Ryoji Maeshima, Meeting Place Fukuoka

All staff of Meeting Place Fukuoka feel deep regret and sorrow on sudden tragedy on the MH17. I remember the same happened on the KE007 (victims were mainly Korean and Japanese people) in 1983. We must remind that our industry is always secured by Peace and Safe. We sincerely pray for the people past away, their family and concerning ICCA friends.

Bibiana Lau, Suntec Singapore

This is indeed another blow to the aviation industry. Our prayers are with the passengers, crew and all others that are connected via this tragedy. May their souls rest in peace.

Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) would like to extend our condolences to the friends and families of everyone aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17. Our thoughts and prayers for all affected by this tragic incident. #PrayforMH17.

Jason Yeh, GIS Group

I was absolutely shocked and saddened to learn the loss of Malaysian Airlines MH17 this morning. Our hope and prayer is with you throughout this difficult time. I wish to send out Taipei’s deepest condolences to the loved ones who have been lost in this tragic incident.

Liu Ping, China Star, Beijing

My dearest friends in the Netherlands and any of the other countries concerned

I have been feeling so painful in my heart since I heard the tragedy of MH17 with 154 Dutch and many other passengers that lost their lives. I have been working with Dutch since 1992 and always feel that Holland is my second hometown. I am as sad as my Dutch friends and the families that lost their beloved. I also deeply sorrow for all those passengers and the crew members on board.

No words can express my feeling. I really don’t know what I can do for you to release the pains in your heart. I just want to tell you my heart is with you and China Star team is with you. I am deeply mourning for those who lost their lives in this tragedy. I am praying for the deceased rest in peace. Warm regards from Ping and China Star Team.

Jennifer Salsbury, CNCC, Beijing

This is such a shock to find this morning, I just can’t imagine how devastated people feel who’ve lost loved ones in this disaster.  We take this kind of hopping to and from Europe so much for granted these days and Amsterdam to Asia is such a busy route, we re-assure ourselves that its statistically safer than crossing the road but words fail me on this.  Retribution doesn’t make it any better, just how on earth can we stop it happening again.

Monica Pataki, ICCA North America Office

My thoughts and prayers to the victims and families of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.  May they all Rest In Peace.

ICCA China Committee

We are shocked and saddened to learn of such a tragedy.  ICCA China (Mainland) Committee would like to extend our most sincere condolences to all the friends and families who lost their beloved ones on MH17 on July 17.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the passengers, crew and all others who are affected by this tragedy.

May they all Rest in Peace!

Ace Chen, Yuelai Liangjiang International Convention Centre, Chongqing

My dearest ICCA friends,

After these several days that fact of this terrible tragedy of MH17 are still shocking, with no words or saying can express the sorrow.

To this my sincere condolence for those who had lost, to accuse any warfare in this planet,

May all of you unfortunates in a sleeping safe and sound, and peace be upon every land.

God bless you all.

Angeline Lue, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

Our hearts are so sad and heavy and our thoughts remain with all those who have lost family, friends and colleagues through this terrible tragedy. We hope all over the world the support offered is felt, and known, and will to help those cope with such monumental loss.

Renato B. Padilla, Philippines International Convention Centre

We join the whole of humanity in condemning the perpetrators of the terroristic act done on MH 17 resulting in the death of 298 innocent persons of various nationalities, three (3) of whom are Filipinos. We pray to God that the death of the innocent civilians will be the end of senseless killings around the world – tribes against tribes, nations against nations.

We pray that their souls will find peace with God, our creators.

Yoshiko Namura, Kyoto International Conference Center

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences and sympathies to all those affected by the tragic loss of MH 17.

I would also like to offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Exposition
China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Chengdu Sub-council
