What makes France so special for your next Congress ?

Numbers are sometimes better reasons than words:
  • 341 international association congresses organized in 2009
  • 9 French cities amongst the top 100 European cities hosting international association congresses including Paris in the Top 3
  • Associations who organize their congresses in France have noticed an increase in attendees
So why do associations select France as a destination to organize their congress? What makes France so special?

Powerful Economy
France has the world’s fifth largest economy

Land of Expertise and Innovation
France is sixth in the world for the number of international patents filed in 2009, and third in Europe for the number of Nobel science laureates.
Home to 71 innovation clusters where teachers, researchers and industry stakeholders collaborate to develop R & D projects in all key technology sectors.
2,000 R&D projects involving 12,000 researchers and foreign companies have been launched since 2005.
Combined with its internationally renowned educational system, France has a pool of talent with a unique expertise. All this expertise is made available to associations through the national and local convention bureaus.
A few examples of associations who have chosen France: European Society of Cardiology (Paris 2011), World Water Forum (Marseille 2012), MIPIM (Cannes), Women’s Forum (Deauville)...

Direct Access to Global Markets
Nowhere else in Europe is access to neighboring countries so quick and easy, with key destinations located just a few hours away, within a radius of 2,000 km from Paris.

With 11 international airports, one of the longest and safest road networks in Europe, and 1872 km of high speed railway tracks, France is easily a destination of choice. Bespoke local and national initiatives, such as Air France KLM Global Meetings (www.airfranceklm-globalmeetings.com), offer preferential travel conditions to participants, in addition to a rewards program. This is one example that demonstrates how key players ensure that they meet individual needs.

Evolving Infrastructure
France has:
  • More than 612,000 rooms in 17,487 hotels across the country
  • A new hotel classification system designed to attract the international market
  • 120 convention centers
  • Constant investment in its infrastructure with major new openings such as Rouen Congress Centre in 2015
Green attitude and commitment to quality
The main actors of the meetings and event industry in France take their commitment to quality and the environment very seriously. For instance, the Palais des Festivals and Congresses of Cannes is the first European convention centre to have obtained a triple certification for Quality (Iso 9001), Environment (ISO 14001) and Safety (Security) (OHSAS 18001). 65% of the venues are either certified or working towards being certified by entities such as ISO. Nantes has recently obtained the title “European Green Capital in 2013” from the EuropeanCommission.

Tradition meets Modernity
France is the most visited country in the world with 35 monuments inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, 10,000 castles, abbeys, manors, churches and 4,000 museums.  World-class technology parks such as at Saclay in the suburb of Paris (IT technologies and biotechnologies), Grenoble (nanotechnologies) and Toulouse (aerospace) shows a different side of France which is also key to France’s attractiveness.
Let’s not forget the Viaduc de Millau, a brilliant feat of engineering and the French Gastronomy added to UNESCO Intangible Heritage of humanity list.
