Doing Business in the Scandinavian Region

Scandinavia is one of the most popular meetings regions in the world. According to ICCA’s statistics we hosted a total of 673 meetings in the five Nordic countries in 2011. That would give us 2nd place overall after USA with 759 meetings but ahead of Germany with 577 meetings if we were ONE country. This is very impressive – especially considering that our five countries have approx. 26 million inhabitants in total, while Germany has 82 million and USA have 308 million respectively.

The five countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are famous for their pristine nature, excellent infrastructure, high quality services, as well as their sustainable way of life and equal opportunities for everybody. Even though the Scandinavian countries have all a lot in common, they also have their own specific character.

Denmark
Denmark is known for its talent in staging successful high profile conferences and congresses including the COP15, the IOC and many more. As one of the world’s most innovative and dynamic meeting destinations, Denmark is MIND blowing. Here tailor-made meeting planning is combined with superb access and infrastructure, world-class restaurants and hotels and a high focus on sustainability. With the creative Danish approach to meeting design and execution, meetings in Denmark are not only more inspiring, they also bring greater benefit to the bottom line. Using the unique Danish meeting concept ‘Meetovation’, meetings in Denmark are designed to engage, excite and encourage. Delegates are actively involved. Conference facilities are used in new and creative ways. Inspiring local experiences are part of the program. Responsible thinking is core to the concept. In Copenhagen alone 63% of all hotel rooms are Green Key certified.

Finland
Finland, safe and reliable destination, easily accessible from all over the world. Our geographical location between East and West makes us not only easy to get to, but even more interesting as a meeting destination to discover.

Credible- around 1.100 venues represent the highest and most modern technology all over the Finland.
Creative- Finnish cuisine combines Scandinavian simplicity, Arctic flavours and pure, organic ingredients.
Contrasting- Located between East and West, with cold, dark winters and warm, light-filled summers. Finland is a country with four seasons.
Cool- Finland has around 200,000 lakes and endless forests.

Finland is all of this and more.

Norway
A big part of Norway's appeal lies in its diversity, and the country is an excellent year-round meeting destination by offering unspoilt nature, modern accommodation and excellent meeting facilities. It is easily accessible by air, with a large number of direct daily flights. Its largest conference centre can accommodate 12,000 people and the country offers Scandinavia's biggest conference-hotel, the Clarion Hotel & Congress Trondheim, which accommodates 1,800 people.

The Norwegian fjords, with their mountains and glaciers, are unique in the world, and nowhere are they so accessible, making them a perfect place for post-meeting activities. Two of them are featured on the UNESCO World Heritage list, and the Norway Fjords Region topped the National Geographic destination ranking list in 2009.

Because of the Midnight Sun, the Northern Lights and the nature based activities, such as dog sledding, killer whale safari and a stay at the igloo hotel, Norway is the ideal destination to inspire, invigorate and recharge your batteries.

Iceland
Reykjavík, Iceland is quickly becoming a popular year round destination for meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) in Europe.  Situated midway between North America and Europe, a growing number of international companies and organizations are choosing Reykjavik for its convenient location, interesting venues, great food, comfortable hotels and thriving culture. A surprisingly high number of airlines offer direct flights to Keflavik International Airport, and it seems like new connections are added every day.

The Icelandic nature is inspiring through its beauty, energy and diversity and supplies the stimulation needed to inject creativity and innovation to meetings and events. Reykjavik is nestled by stunning landscape that is just a car ride away, making the destination ideal for day tours. Wondrous waterfalls, vast glaciers, towering volcanoes, and soothing hot springs are part of the breathtaking landscape begging to be explored. Iceland is in the forefront worldwide in the usage of renewable energy and many hotels and venues are following environmental policies.

Reykjavik is a destination that fulfils professional requirements and provides memorable stories which is surely something an event planner is looking for. The wide network of suppliers within The Meet in Reykjavik Convention bureau offers resources and know-how to design unforgettable events.
