Meet the faces behind ICCA's famous First Time Attendee programme! ICCA places huge importance on giving First Time Attendees (FTAs) at the ICCA Congress a very warm welcome. Each year, just before the ICCA Congress begins, new attendees are invited to join a specialised session that aims to prepare them for success. Jam-packed full of helpful advice that is delivered from member to member, the programme has been delivered to over 3,000 delegates since it initially began and is designed with care to help them network, do business, learn, and maximise the benefits of attending their first ICCA Congress.

At the centre of the entire programme are the people we couldn’t do it without: our mentors, an amazing group of ICCA members and #ICCAFriends who are Congress veterans and want to help support and steer our newbies as they join the ICCA Family.

Meet Elisabeth Kassanits-Pfoess

“No day is like the same, that is what makes me tick everyday”

I joined the Salzburg Convention Bureau as a Sales & Marketing Manager in 2015. At the bureau I am dealing with bidding processes for international associations as well as overseeing the corporate D-A-CH market. Already in my childhood I discovered my passion for hospitality and tourism (when assisting my family in a small restaurant). This passion continued and after graduating the master studies in “Innovation and Tourism” in Salzburg & Hong Kong and after a trip around the world the enthusiasm for the events industry grew. Previously I, worked as a sales manager at a conference venue, hotels and DMCs which gave me a great understanding of the industry. What makes me smile every day, is when I can show clients around in my beautiful country and share my home as a future knowledge hub for conferences.

My first ICCA Congress was in Antalya 2014 and I never attended a similar conference in the past. It was amazing how open and welcoming the ICCA family invited the First timers to their “world”. Since that I had the great chance to attend several different ICCA formats, from client supplier workshops to AES and every single time you make new great friends. It is a great advantage in your everyday business life, that you can contact your peers all around the globe, if you need an advice.

Of course, at the very first moment the people welcoming and hugging each other at the congress, can be overwhelming but you really make great friends here and you can make a step out of your comfort zone, as nobody will blame you. Take a chance and start in your own FTA group. I have had the great honor to support this session for the third time now and it is really a great possibility to share some of my first impressions and emotions.

Enjoy the warm welcome! Stay curious and most importantly have a fun time in Houston!

Thank you to Elisabeth for becoming an FTA mentor at the 58th ICCA Congress in Houston, U.S.A.! Are you interested in helping our First Time Attendees to settle in? Find out more about the programme or email Ksenija.p@iccaworld.org to find out how you can become a mentor.
