ICCA is keen to recruit universities which offer undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes on the international meetings industry, and we are particularly interested in those which have high-level meetings-related research programmes, whether academic or practical industry-partnership projects.
But what’s in it for the universities?
1. Access to ICCA data
The extensive ICCA database of international association meetings is only available to ICCA members, and is regarded as our most valuable asset. It offers a wealth of opportunities for research work and to design study programmes for students using real-time data. It also gives students a chance to understand how such databases relate to key research, sales and marketing activities carried out by meetings industry suppliers. Knowledge of how to use the ICCA database makes your students more employable, especially with any of the leading 900 companies and organisations which are ICCA members.
2. Access to the latest market information
ICCA offers tremendous opportunities for academics and students to interact with top meetings industry practitioners, at our major events and via online media, and to gain ongoing access to best practice in marketing. We’ll also identify potential guest lecturers from amongst our membership, and make introductions to help set these arrangements up. ICCA membership ensures that your lecturers and students understand current industry thinking, emerging trends and new challenges, ensuring your academic programmes are grounded in market reality.
3. Job and intern opportunities for students
We understand how competitive it is for universities to attract the best and brightest students. One key area of competition is the employability of graduating students. ICCA membership opens up a new world of potential internships and access to job vacancies that will not become known to other institutions which are not ICCA members. We have just agreed at Board level to regularly collect data on which of our members offer internship positions, and to promote these proactively to our university members. Finding a good internship is often the best route to securing a good quality job for your students – we’ll make this task far easier for you to deliver.
4. Aspirational opportunities for your top performers
ICCA offers each university member two annual scholarships to send top performing students to the ICCA Congress, our most prestigious event which attracts industry leaders from over 70 countries (see accompanying briefing document). These students are even included in the Congress speaker programme and get a unique behind-the-scenes perspective on how ICCA creates the programme and runs the logistics. The value of these scholarships alone is equal to the cost of the annual membership fee. This unique benefit can be included in your marketing material to attract top students, and to further differentiate your programmes.
5. High-level research opportunities
ICCA regularly commissions original research, especially into the international association meetings sector, and is a Founder Partner of the industry-leading “Convention 2020” futures research project. As a matter of policy we will only approach ICCA member universities when we need an academic partner to conduct a research programme. We initiate research with member universities and provide seed-corn funds to the value of 2500 Euro per project plus assist in identifying prospective partners from amongst our member companies and organisations. ICCA membership offers you a cost-effective way of building a reputation as a centre of meetings industry research excellence.
6. Globally enhanced profile
ICCA is recognised as one of the industry’s most prestigious associations, and our members are typically the top venues, destinations, meetings management companies and other supplier types within their home market. ICCA membership offers universities a simple way to raise their profile on a truly global scale, and to be counted amongst the industry’s leaders.
