GBAC STAR Accreditation Programme

ICCA Forms Partnership with ISSA and Global Biorisk Advisory Council to Enhance Commitment to Safe Events
Share on LinkedIn

The Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, has formed a partnership with ICCA to bring essential business reopening resources to ICCA members. ICCA’s members include venues, convention and visitors bureaus and Tourism Boards, airlines, and other event-related organisations.

As part of the agreement, ICCA promotes GBAC programmes that help venues and cleaning professionals better prepare for, respond to, and recover from biorisk situations.

What is the GBAC STAR™ facility accreditation programme?

GBAC STAR™ is the cleaning industry’s only outbreak prevention, response and recovery accreditation for facilities. The programme helps public and commercial facilities establish and maintain a cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention programme to minimise risks associated with infectious agents and biohazards.

GBAC STAR™ is a performance-based programme that is based on quality management system principles like those of ISO 9001. GBAC STAR is the gold standard of prepared facilities—especially in the wake of COVID-19 as facilities seek guidance on reopening safely and confidently.

What does GBAC STAR™ accreditation mean for our facility?

Once accredited to GBAC STAR™, it means the facility is implementing the industry’s highest standards for cleaning and disinfection of infectious agents like the novel coronavirus.

What does it mean for our guests?

Venue guests should have assurance that the facility is cleaned and disinfected to the highest standards. They should have increased confidence to enter and feel comfortable inside the building knowing that facility management prioritises proper cleaning, disinfection and infectious disease prevention measures to protect occupant health.

What does the accreditation process encompass?

To earn accreditation, facilities must comply with GBAC STAR™’s 20 programme elements, which outline proper cleaning protocols, disinfection techniques and work practices to combat biohazards and infectious disease.
