Member to Member Top Tip - August: Using the ICCA Meetings App

Inge Krogh Larsen, Project Manager at Visit Aalborg, Denmark, discusses her experiences with the ICCA Meetings App at the ICCA AMP 2018:

“Attending the Association Meetings Programme (AMP) in Ljubljana this year, I was very taken with the ICCA Meetings App. I never used my paper programme once!

I started out using the app by going through the programme and choosing which sessions I wanted to attend. I then added my sessions to the ‘Personal Programme’ and any other matters of interest to my ‘Conference Bag’.

This helped me to keep track of my schedule by providing me with notifications about my next session and where it would be held. It also helped keeping a tab on the sessions I had decided on from home; it was very easy to get chatting to a person and get sidetracked into staying in a room or changing my priorities. This way it reminded me I had a prior engagement scheduled.

Afterwards regular notifications also helped to remind me to rate the session I had just attended.

When I talked to a fellow delegate or met someone new, I could quickly add the person to my Conference Bag for further research and connection. With their profile in my Conference Bag, I could easily remember the person and our conversation by looking at it afterwards.

When back in the office, I connected with a lot of the people I met through LinkedIn. I can now follow them and what is relevant to their jobs and working life, and perhaps get even more insight into my network.

I also used the Chat option to meet up with a couple of people whilst at the AMP. Instead of meeting by accident or spending valuable time looking at name tags, it was possible to arrange a time and place and be more in control of your meeting and plan ahead.

It was easy having Sli.do integrated into the app so I could use it during the education sessions, and I had everything I needed on hand at all times. No need for pen and paper or a paper programme

And last but not least: I’m the coordinator for a VisitAalborg conference in October. Having just experienced the pros and cons of a conference app as a user, I have and will use the ICCA app as inspiration for the app we want to develop for our conference.”
