Dear ICCA Members and Friends,
The upcoming 57th ICCA Congress, to be held in Dubai from 11-14 November 2018, is on track to smash the attendance record for a Congress held outside of Europe, providing a significant endorsement to Dubai’s growing status as a global knowledge hub for the international association sector.
As of Wednesday 19 September 2018, 908 delegates from 78 countries had already registered. The previous record for a Congress held outside of Europe was the 52nd ICCA Congress with 936 participants, held in Shanghai in 2013.
According to ICCA Statistics, the Middle East region is relatively the fastest growing region for international association meetings. Dubai continuously comes in first place for number of meetings held per city and is rapidly becoming known as a key centre of growth for the international association meetings sector. The city has invested heavily in developing a strong knowledge economy, meaning the demand for association engagement has surged in recent years. This achievement demonstrates both the region’s commitment to developing its capacity to host international association meetings and the importance of associations to the region’s continued economic development.
ICCA’s Middle East office in Dubai continues to play a major role in engaging with the local meetings industry to advance the international association meetings market in the region. Due to a strong advocacy strategy involving increased educational and networking activities, the engagement of Middle Eastern countries in ICCA activities has risen significantly since 2016, with 16 new “Meetings Industry Development Forums” taking place in 7 countries. In the same period, ICCA membership in the Middle East has grown to 65 organisations.
You’ll see from the photo taken at the recent MFC meeting at ICCA HO, that included all the ICCA Presidential Candidates, that we are prepared to donate our glasses to this year’s “Gift of Love” and official ICCA Congress Charity: The Noor Dubai Foundation.
This year, Congress delegates have the chance to give an extremely special gift: the gift of sight. As part of their free, accessible treatment plans, the Noor Dubai Foundation collects and distributes glasses to their patients in need of vision aids. ICCA members, friends and partners are encouraged to bring glasses or sun glasses in good condition to the ICCA Congress 2018 in Dubai and donate them to the Foundation. Collection boxes will be available in the main Congress area for your old glasses or sunglasses. Can’t make it to the Congress? Send your gift with your colleague or peer who is attending! Find out more.
There is still time to register for the standard registration fee before the standard registration deadline expires on this Friday 21 September! Register now: www.congress2018.iccaworld.org.
Yours in ICCA,
