ICCA Researcher of the Month – September 2019
The red update button is your friend! The more you use it, the more concrete information you get. ICCA members - together with the ICCA team - are working hard to achieve a mutually beneficial situation of sharing information on the ICCA Association Database.
Keep finding ways to press it and you'll be in the running to become the next Researcher of the Month - or even Researcher of the Year!
For September 2019, Cristina Varela, Marketing Analyst at Costa Rica Convention Center has secured the coveted title! Here's what Cristina had to say:
Why do you consider it so important to contribute your meeting information to ICCA Data?
It is so important because all ICCA members get benefit from the database. If you discover an update while you are investigating a meeting it is essential to upload it on ICCA data base because other researcher can get this information easier and in less time.
Also, it is very hard getting information from a reliable source, so if you have it you can update, and ICCA team will verify this information turning it into a treasure for all members.
What would you like to say to other ICCA members who haven’t actively used the ICCA Database?
First, if you don’t know how to use ICCA database and what are its benefits you can contact ICCA team and ask for a capacitation, this alone will motivate you to use it.
Then, start exploring the sections of the platform so you can discover the information that it shows. Not only explore the Association database, also use the Destination Comparison Tool to analyse the meetings industry in your country and city against others.
Do you have any tips for your fellow ICCA members?
Any update is important for the database, it doesn't matter if it's something small like adding the venue of a meeting or something bigger like reporting a new meeting edition.
Don’t be afraid to report an update. At the beginning I feared in reporting updates, but when I realized that these updates are verified by the ICCA team I felt more confident, and now I report any new data and it is gratifying as a researcher to contribute to an industry as relevant as this.
It’s incredibly important you log in to the Association Database using your own account! The more updates you make to the Database, the greater chance you have of being named the Researcher of the Month - and we can’t be sure it’s you pressing the red button if you’re using your colleague’s details. Please help us end the confusion so this accolade continues to go to the right person.
