Since my last message, summer has finally found us here in the UK! Like many other parts of the world, we’re currently in the midst of a heatwave and, as is traditional at this time of year, people are dusting off their barbecues, heading to the beach, or enjoying some well-deserved rest and relaxation on holiday with their loved ones. To all of you across the world: please make sure you take a break from your busy schedules and recharge your batteries!
We are six months into an incredibly eventful year for the ICCA community, and as we head into the upcoming busy period with IMEX America 2019 and our 58th Congress just around the corner, I would like to reflect on and celebrate some of the milestones we’ve reached as an association:
- The 58th ICCA Congress is on track to be the largest ever held in North America. The Early Bird deadline passed earlier this month on 5th July and many of you have already registered to join us in Houston, U.S.A. from 27-30 October 2019! If you haven’t secured your place yet, there is still plenty of chance to do so before the next registration deadline: Standard fees end on 6th September. We sincerely hope you can join us. This is your chance to come together with your meetings industry colleagues, share your expertise, and help shape ICCA’s journey as a community.
- In the spirit of collaboration over competition, we launched a Global Alliance with fellow meetings industry associations UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) and AIPC (The International Association of Convention Centres). We operate in a world of constant change; through this new partnership, we will find ways to cooperate and share the knowledge bank that our associations hold for the benefit of all our respective members.
- With the appointment of Senthil Gopinath as the new ICCA CEO, we have stormed ahead with implementing our plans for ICCA’s future – with ICCA Members in the driving seat. The first step in this new direction is to listen to you and find out more about your experiences as ICCA Members and how you feel we can improve our services to suit your personal business needs. To do this, we recently released the ICCA Bright Ideas Box, a simple form you can fill it out with your feedback on membership and the ideas you would like to see ICCA implement. You can find it on our website or via the My ICCA Portal. The ideas and thoughts of our members are truly valuable! Please take the time to send us your suggestions.
And this is only the beginning. There are more innovations in the pipeline, and I look forward to sharing some very exciting developments with you in the coming period.
For now, I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing August!
