Presidential Message - March 2019: In this current global climate, let us all remember what makes ICCA unique

Since my election as ICCA President at our 58th Congress in Dubai, it has been my honour to write my first President’s messages, where I have spoken in detail about the huge number of activities that ICCA staff and members have been doing this year in our regions and chapters across the world. I’ve also expressed and reflected upon our association community’s excitement about the year ahead, with the 4th AMP being held in Durban, South Africa and our annual Congress taking place in Houston, U.S.A.

But while we look ahead to a year of new innovations and knowledge sharing, I have to admit to deep reflection about current affairs and events that are, and have been, affecting so many of the ICCA family around the world.

However, despite the perception of global division that we see in our newspapers, our online channels and on our television screens, it is heartening to know that ICCA continues to do what it does best: build new relationships; reinforce friendships and partnerships; and seek out new members of the industry to welcome them into our community.

These are the core values of ICCA and it is these values that underpin the reason why we do what we do every day. Our industry delivers billions to the global economy by bringing people together to change the world for the better and change people’s lives, and effect positive economic and societal change.

ICCA’s teams in our offices around the world are there to help us, their members, and provide a crucial link between the different sectors of our industry.

In this current global climate, let us all remember what makes ICCA unique and ensure that we continue to build bridges and share experiences with one another, so that whatever challenges we may be facing, there is the knowledge that out there, within the ICCA family, lies the support we may need to find a solution.

Yours in ICCA,

James Rees
