On 27 and 28 November 2013, the international elite of tunnel construction will meet at the ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart. With more than 1,500 participants from 20 countries, the STUVA conference is one of the world's leading and largest events in the tunnel construction sector. This year's conference, entitled "Tunnels – Infrastructure for the Future", will focus on the current challenges and technical opportunities of tunnel construction. In parallel with numerous presentations and technical visits, the STUVA Expo will also take place with around 140 exhibitors on 2,300 square meters.
"An excellent transport infrastructure and modern, flexible facilities make the ICS an ideal event location for our conference this year", explains Dr.-Ing. Roland Leucker, Managing Director of the German Research Association for Underground Transportation Facilities (STUVA), which holds the conference every two years. "And, of course, because in Stuttgart and its surrounding areas we have several very interesting tunnel construction projects, which we will be visiting with the participants." The programme includes technical visits along the Stuttgart–Ulm railway project, the new U12 urban metro line and the upgraded Heslach Tunnel.
The congress exhibition was last held in Hamburg and Berlin.
"The STUVA conference is a very interesting project for us", says Stefan Lohnert, Division Director Guest Events at Messe Stuttgart, as he looks ahead to the forthcoming exhibition. "It's perfect for us in terms of its subject matter. And in logistical terms, we can make maximum use of our outstanding facilities." All service partners will be put to the test when in the evening of the first day, the conference hall will be transformed from a daytime plenum into a top-class gala location with show area and lounge for 1,500 guests - in just two hours.
The ICS International Congress Center Stuttgart is one of the largest and most modern congress centres in Germany and is located directly beside Stuttgart Airport, only a 5 minute walk. The flexible spatial concept of the areas and rooms enables extremely variable use for all different types of events. The congress room with a total area of 2,669 m² can be divided into four rooms. The multifunctional congress and exhibition hall offers space for up to 5,000 persons on an area of 4,933 m² and can also be divided into two segments with a partition wall. There is still room for up to 2,000 people in the congress and conference area on the upper floor.
