Borneo Convention Centre Kuching

Borneo Convention Centre Kuching

YOUR EVENTS, THE BORNEO WAY

Being situated amidst the renowned rainforests of Borneo and the very first purpose-built convention centre on one of the world’s great islands is a great source of pride for the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), first offered to the world in 2009.

“The very nature of our business is to ensure your event and visit to our beautiful Centre is managed professionally and present you with an experience unequalled in the world. After all there is only one Borneo in the world” proffered Eric van Piggelen, Chief Executive Officer of BCCK. “BCCK together with Sarawak’s unique leisure offerings have shown their mettle of being able to compete favourably in the business event arena in Malaysia and beyond. With strong backing from the state government of Sarawak, BCCK is moving into top gear to stage bigger and more prominent events.”

Getting the Nod. Winning the bid to host the 55th International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Annual Congress 2016 has further cemented BCCK’s position to attract more international events to Kuching.  Support for this bid from the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau, Sarawak Convention Bureau, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre and BCCK’s other Team Malaysia partners demonstrates the confidence that BCCK has earned from the authorities and players in the industry.

The recognition of Kuching as a choice destination for business tourism, is being solidified as the tourism, airport and airline industries take note by appointing Kuching as the host city for a range of tourism-related events.

The most recent event of this type hosted at BCCK was the Global Tourism Cities Conference 2013 which took place from 2 to 3 July 2013. BCCK has also been appointed the host venue for the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2014 and Routes Asia 2014.

ATF is a cooperative regional tourism effort of the Association of Southeast Asian nations. Routes Asia brings together airports, airlines, tourism authorities, policy leaders, keynote speakers and exhibitors through their annual networking of more than 500 key players from Asia and Europe for strategic networking on air service development.

These events augur well for the tourism industry in Sarawak and air connectivity to Kuching is expected to be given a further boost.

A Great Value Destination. Building on the position of Sarawak as a burgeoning
eco-tourism destination, BCCK offers an attractive proposition to conference buyers – pairing world-class convention facilities, international-branded hotels and modernity with culture, nature and adventure-based tourism – at favourable prices to conference buyers and delegates, and all within comfortable reach from the heart of Kuching. A mix of business and leisure offerings that BCCK can deliver with confidence as it enters the fifth year since its foray into the business events sphere.

Jewel in the Rainforest. Ringed by the Sarawak River and lush greenery, BCCK, which sits on the Kuching Isthmus, provides conference delegates the opportunity to attend congresses and exhibitions amidst a Borneo rainforest yet being just fifteen minutes away from the city’s hub. Available space in this green jewel is more than 3,700 square metres and it offers flexible functional spaces for plenary sessions, meetings, exhibitions and banquets. The pillarless Great Hall can accommodate up to 5,000 delegates.

Improved Access. Recent infrastructure upgrades have enhanced BCCK’s attractiveness. The venue is now served by an extensive network of new roads and bridges; transfer time between the city centre and the Kuching International Airport to BCCK is under twenty minutes.

A new river catamaran is in the pipeline to offer alternative connectivity to The Isthmus. Conference delegates will be able to experience the award-winning Kuching Waterfront with quaint colourful Malay houses dotting the banks of the Sarawak River. The cruise along this important river which has served coastal dwellers for centuries will also take them past the elegant City Mosque, the Astana (the former abode of the White Rajahs and now the official residence of the Sarawak Governor), the castle-styled Fort Margherita from the White Rajahs era and verdant wetlands.

Past Successes. BCCK had successfully staged high profile events such as The 2012 Commonwealth Dental Association/Malaysian Dental Association/FDI World Dental Federation Joint International Scientific Convention and Trade Exhibition, the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist 10th International Scientific Congress, The 14th Asia Pacific Congress of Pediatrics and 4th Asia Pacific Congress of Pediatric Nursing.

2013 had also seen a host of notable events – the ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards 2013, The 9th Asian Society for Paediatric Research Congress & 20th Perinatal Society of Malaysia Annual Congress, The 1st Asia Pacific Conference on Dyslexia & Learning Disabilities, The 8th International Symposium on Digital Earth 2013, and the Asia Pacific Tourism Hospitality and Technology Conference 2013.

Strategic Partnership. BCCK, in partnership with the Sarawak Convention Bureau, supports SCORE, the Sarawak state government’s economic corridor, to attract prominent international conferences/congresses linked to the glass industries, steel, timber- and oil-based industries, palm oil, livestock, fishing and aquaculture, marine and tourism. The Third International Conference and Exhibition on Water Resources and Renewable Energy Development in Asia 2010 and The 2013 International Hydropower Association World Congress are two examples of valuable synergy between SCORE and business events that had materialised.
