A Moment of Darkness For A Lifetime Of Light!

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 April 2014 – Over 300 team members and their families from the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) used their environmentally-friendly dynamo torches when the venue went ‘dark’ on 29 March, 2014 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm in support of a symbolic call to action to protect the planet.

Participating in the global Earth Hour campaign for a fifth consecutive year, the Centre not only turned off all non-essential lights but hosted the screening of ‘Happy Feet’, a 3D animated film based on the effects of climate change, and a variety of hands-on activities to further educate team members and their families on nature, the environment and the Earth Hour initiative.

Speaking at the gathering, the Centre's Director of Facilities, Mr Chen Soo Yoong said the Centre’s participation in the annual Earth Hour is “an on-going initiative under our sustainability agenda. The occasion provides a great platform for us to take advantage of our position in the community to raise awareness of environmental issues and inspire people, especially the younger generation to take action.”

Chen explained that this year, the Centre was thrilled to join more than 50 AEG-affiliated venues in in 35 cities, eight countries and four continents across the globe to celebrate their commitment to the environment under the AEG Ogden 1EARTH programme.

Earth Hour is designed to show the power everyone has to make a difference and demonstrate the collective strength of these small actions. Earth Hour started in just one city in 2007 and has spread to more than 7,000 cities covering all seven continents. The annual event takes place from 8:30pm to 9:30pm across all time zones and includes countless global landmarks, from the PETRONAS Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur to the Eiffel Tower in Paris to the Empire State Building in New York to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.
