The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre's Australian Connection!

Melbourne, 23 February 2016 ­– The Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Expo (AIME) 2016 provides the perfect platform for the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) to expand her long-standing links with Australia-based clients through various activities, including knowledge sharing, client engagement and networking with industry stakeholders. This is the Centre’s 10th consecutive year participating at Asia Pacific’s premier tradeshow for the meetings and events industry.

Speaking on the sidelines of AIME 2016, the Centre’s General Manager, Alan Pryor says, “AIME is always a great tradeshow to kick off the new year, it provides the ideal stage for us to foster and strengthen our relationships with Australia-based clients and showcase our range of flexible, innovative and value-add solutions directly to them. It also allows those not familiar with Malaysia’s multi-cultural diversity and extensive business events offerings to get better acquainted and hopefully, decide to come and experience the famed Malaysian hospitality for themselves.”

Director of Sales and Marketing, Angeline Lue, will also be sharing her knowledge and experience on business events, benefits beyond tourism and how to win business from a venue perspective at the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) International Meetings Foundation Seminar. This seminar, which is being held in conjunction with AIME 2016, offers targeted education and valuable career development advice to young professionals, coupled with the opportunity to gain insights from more experienced industry members and Angeline’s involvement reflects the Centre’s on-going effort to develop the next generation of industry professionals.

The Centre is part of the AEG Ogden group of convention centres, which is well represented by world-class venues in Australia. This connection gives the Centre a more in-depth understanding of the Australian market allowing her team to tailor its offerings to better meet the needs of Australia-based clients. As such, the Centre has always enjoyed a warm relationship with Australia-based clients and Malaysia-based Australian companies, including the the Australian High Commission Malaysia, which recently hosted their Australia Day Reception at the facility for the 9th consecutive year, adds Pryor.

“This year’s Australia Day Reception was another great spectacle and is definitely one of the highlights of the diplomatic calendar in Kuala Lumpur. Themed ‘Taste of Australia’, the room décor, ambience and food presentation was divided into three zones - outback, city and ocean/beach. The menu was tailor-made and used premium Australian ingredients, including a 60 kg hanging tuna and a unique photo wall filled with quintessential Aussie dessert - Lamingtons. But the ‘big’ differentiator were the large screens shaped like the Australian continent, which were specifically built for the occasion and used to project iconic images from around Australia. In addition, handmade ice carvings of famous Australian animals were strategically placed throughout the room to match the theme,” concludes Pryor.

About the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is a component of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) and is managed and operated by Convex Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a joint-venture company between KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd and AEG Ogden Pty Ltd, Australia.

A winner of numerous awards, this world-class facility is wholly-owned by Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Sdn Bhd which in turn, is owned by KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS).

The Centre has ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications, EarthCheck Bronze status (environment) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Certification (HACCP) recognition, the international food safety system for international convention facilities and five-star hotels. It is also the first in Asia to receive the ‘Gold’ AIPC Quality Standards certification. 

Comprising two auditoria (seating 3,000 and 500 respectively), 12,310 sqm of Exhibition Halls including a 2,600 sqm standalone marquee, a Grand Ballroom which seats 2,000 diners, a Banquet Hall for 500, a Conference Hall for 1,800 and 20 other meeting rooms, the Centre provides 22,659 sqm of function space in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
