New line-up of ICCA Malaysia Committee announced

Penang, Malaysia -- ICCA Malaysia recently elected a new Committee line-up for the term 2019 – 2021. Ashwin Gunasekeran takes the helm as the ICCA Malaysia Committee’s Chair and Fu Kei Cheong, CMP as Deputy Chair.

Ashwin is the Chief Executive Officer of Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB), while Kei Cheong (better known as KC), is the co-founder of Anderes Fourdy, a Malaysian professional conference organiser.

The ICCA Malaysia Committee currently comprises 16 ICCA members, made up of  national and city bureaus, venues, meetings technology companies and professional congress organisers (PCO). ICCA Malaysia has become increasingly active over the years, strengthening Malaysia's profile as a business events destination by organising industry training programmes and advocacy campaigns. Since 2017, the ICCA Malaysia Committee has adopted the Global Meetings Industry Day campaign, which each member gets involved with by running their own micro-campaigns to create awareness of the Business Events industry in Malaysia and to share the power of meetings.

Speaking after the appointment, Aswin said: “ICCA Malaysia has always been a supportive community that has been working together to strengthen the Malaysian business events industry. Since 2016, Penang, through PCEB, has part of the ICCA Malaysia family. With my appointment as the Chair, I look forward to Penang taking a stronger role in growing the efforts of ICCA Malaysia.

It will be an interesting term for me as part of  ICCA Malaysia, and I thank the ICCA Malaysia Committee members for nominating me as the Deputy Chair. I will endeavour to support the members’ agenda and deputise Ashwin,” said KC.

The ICCA Malaysia was re-launched in 2014 as a formal gathering to bring all Malaysian members together as a team to strengthen the industry further, by pooling resources and working closely with national academia and government entities. The Committee is dedicated to organising activities related to the four pillars of Students (Education), Government, Associations and Trade Associations.
