This month, we get to know Destination Fyn Convention Bureau a bit better with a Q&A below.

What was your motivation to join ICCA?
ICCA is the place to be when working with attracting international association conferences. It is a very inclusive, innovative, and open community and the members are happy to share insights and best practices that truly inspires. The co-creation with other destinations and associations helps us to innovate and develop at our local destination and contributes to us being at the forefront in creating value for our future customers.

Tell us your story. How did Destination Fyn Convention Bureau get started?
Destination Fyn Convention Bureau just started January this year and covers the destination of Fyn, primarily covering the cities of Svendborg, Nyborg, Middelfart and Odense. Odense being the 3rd largest city in Denmark and home to University of Southern Denmark, a University hospital, and the national hub within robotics.

What sets Destination Fyn Convention Bureau apart?
We are a small but very dedicated, professional, and experienced team that do our best to create value for the international associations and our local conference hosts. As a 2nd city we focus on our scientific strengths and opportunities for co-creation, impact and legacy between the international association, local knowledge institutions, industry and municipalities. We work with attracting conferences as a driver for growth and development beyond tourism.

What can we expect to see from Destination Fyn Convention Bureau in the future?
You can expect to see a very dedicated, agile and flexible convention bureau, adapting to the meetings of today and into the future. An engaged convention bureau, testing new formats, working continuously with value creation, reaching out to fellow destinations and associations around the world, building relations, sharing and co-creating – eager to get involved.

Which trends do you see in the Association Meetings?
No doubt there is a disruption going on, accelerated by Covid-19 when it comes to meeting formats, digitalization, sustainability, inclusion and access to knowledge and development moving forward. We are adapting to a new market with new habits, options and opportunities and so are the associations. We are confident that we will meet again face2face whenever the need to build trust, relations, innovation and collaboration is there, with the above tendencies and development in mind.

What is an industry challenge your organisation is facing currently?
The obvious challenge right now is that we are closed for business when it comes to international conferences due to the pandemic. However we are adopting to the situation, planning for conferences in 2023 and onwards, developing tools, adding skills and preparing a strong value chain for the new market.
