Presidential Message - January 2019: Looking forward to the year ahead

Hello to ICCA colleagues around the world!

I hope you have had a fantastic start to 2019 and that the coming year is shaping up to be a successful one, as it most certainly will be for ICCA.

On the 15th January this year, applications closed for candidates to apply for the position as ICCA’s CEO, and I am pleased to confirm that there was a great deal of interest in the role. We look forward to bringing you further updates on this in the near future as we move through the recruitment process.

Our Chapters and regions have also already announced many great events that we’ll be hosting and supporting throughout the year, providing even more opportunities for us to share knowledge and build networks as a community.

Personally, I’m particularly excited about returning to Africa for the upcoming ICCA AMP 2019 in Durban, South Africa for the first time since my first ICCA Congress back in 2004. However, this time I will be coming as a member of the faculty. I wholeheartedly encourage all of you out there to attend this fantastic programme – plus, extend the invitation to your colleagues!

Here in London, we’re busy putting the final numbers together for ExCeL London’s 2018 ICCA Statistics submission, an incredibly important part of the ICCA calendar for Sector Destination and Sector Venue members’ promotional activities. We’ve been working closely with the ICCA team to collect all our meetings information; by doing so, we have in fact discovered 4 new events that took place at ExCeL in 2018, which we will be sending to our bureau and then on to the ICCA team.

The lesson from our experience: Do explore and record every event that has happened in your destination or venue. Get those stats in and boost your position on the association meetings market!

The deadline is 1 February, so be sure to make the most of this opportunity while you have the time. Talk to the team at ICCA Head Office if you need help with seeking out those extra events that you perhaps didn’t realise were happening in your venue or city. The ICCA team at the Head Office and in your Regional offices across the world are there to serve and support you. Please ask them any questions you may have!
