What was your motivation for joining ICCA?
We joined ICCA with the aspiration of establishing the Chongqing Science Hall China as a pivotal hub for global scientific exchange and the conference industry during the coordinated development of high-tech zone-related sectors. By leveraging ICCA's influence, we aim to attract more high-profile international academic conferences, foster scientific and technological collaboration between domestic and international partners, and concurrently enhance Chongqing's competitiveness and influence as an international conference destination. Ultimately, our goal is to develop the Chongqing Science Hall China into both "A Global Meeting Destination for International Cities" and "A New Landmark Icon for Industry Development.
Tell us your story. How did Chongqing Science Hall, China started?
In the grand panorama of China's Western Development strategy, Chongqing High-Tech Zone, as a National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone, has been entrusted with the mission of innovation-driven development since 1991. With the advancement of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin Cities Economic Circle strategy in 2019, this region has been endowed with a new historical role - to forge the "fourth growth pole" of China's economy. Emerging from this strategic vision, the Chongqing Sicence Hall stands as a core carrier of this initiative, officially commencing operations in December 2024.
Spanning 330,000 square meters, the complex integrates convention facilities, exhibition halls, innovation hubs, and service centers. More than physical infrastructure, it serves as an intellectual nexus converging global wisdom. Its fundamental mission revolves around propelling industrial advancement through high-level academic forums. The versatile 5,000-square-meter pillar-free hall hosts international summits, while the 60,000-square-meter exhibition space showcases cutting-edge technologies. The innovation center acts as a tech incubator, collectively forming a "convention-exhibition-incubation" ecosystem.
The Chengdu-Chongqing economic synergy amplifies the center's strategic value, bridging the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Silk Road Economic Belt. By attracting global resources through international academic exchanges, it drives industrial upgrading in western China. As outlined in the project blueprint, this complex will "enhance the investment appeal of the high-tech zone and accelerate socio-economic development," emerging as a new engine for inland openness.
This narrative transcends architectural achievement, epitomizing western China's scientific renaissance. Transitioning from policy-driven initiatives to innovation-led growth, the Science City Convention Center is scripting a new chapter in integrating China's western regions into the global innovation network.
What sets Chongqing Science Hall, China apart?
Chongqing Science Hall China spans 320 meters north-south and 279 meters east-west, reaching 54 meters in height. This scientific sanctum ingeniously integrates traditional Chinese timber framing wisdom with the soaring multi-eave structure, creating an architectural embodiment of Eastern ingenuity.
Viewed from afar, its undulating curvilinear roof dynamically mirrors Chongqing's mist-enshrouded mountain riverscape, while textured metallic curtain walls accentuate the edifice's technological ethos through intricate material articulation.
Guided by the design philosophy of "architectural grandeur, structural integrity, functional elegance, and harmonious aesthetics," the hall manifests as a monumental masterpiece blending robust magnificence with rational minimalism. Inspired by the geological essence of Ba Mountains and Yu River, its sweeping façade features fluid aquatic textures that produce mesmerizing optical metamorphosis, symbolizing "the vessel of science navigating the ocean of wisdom.”
