This month, we get to know Grenoble Alpes Convention Bureau:
What was your motivation to join ICCA?
Joining ICCA represents a strategic step for Grenoble Alpes Convention Bureau to strengthen its positioning in the meetings industry. Our destination combines scientific excellence, innovation, and an exceptional natural environment, and ICCA offers the ideal platform to showcase these assets globally. We are particularly motivated by the opportunity to connect with a strong network of peers, share best practices, and contribute to the development of sustainable and impactful international events.
Tell us your story. How did your organisation get started?
Grenoble Alpes Convention Bureau was created to promote the Grenoble Alpes destination as a hub for business events, conferences, and congresses. Rooted in a territory known for its strong research ecosystem, cutting-edge industries, academic excellence and pioneering spirit, the bureau was established to support event organizers in accessing this unique environment.
What sets your organisation apart?
What truly differentiates Grenoble Alpes is the unique combination of high-level scientific expertise and an inspiring alpine setting. The destination is internationally recognized in fields such as microelectronics, energy, health, and digital technologies, making it particularly attractive for knowledge-based events. At the same time, its proximity to the mountains offers a distinctive quality of life and memorable experiences for delegates. Our bureau also stands out for its personalized support, strong local network, and commitment to sustainability and responsible event practices.
What is your favorite success story from your organisation?
One of our most meaningful successes has been attracting and supporting international scientific congresses that directly align with Grenoble Alpes’ areas of excellence, such as the European Microelectronics & Packaging Conference, the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy Symposium, the Theory of Quantum Computation, Communication and Criptography... These events not only bring global experts to the region but also create long-term collaborations between local researchers and international communities. A particularly rewarding aspect is seeing how these congresses leave a legacy—strengthening Grenoble Alpes' reputation, fostering innovation, and generating tangible economic and academic impact for the territory.
Can you name a challenge your organisation is currently facing?
Like many destinations, one of our key challenges is standing out in an increasingly competitive global market while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability. Balancing growth in international events with environmental responsibility requires continuous innovation and collaboration with our stakeholders. Additionally, adapting to evolving expectations from event organizers remains a central focus for our organisation.
What can we expect to see from your organisation in the future?
Looking ahead, Grenoble Alpes Convention Bureau aims to gradually strengthen its international presence while continuing to build on the destination’s existing strengths. We hope to further develop our support for associations and PCOs, explore more sustainable approaches to events, and continue learning from our partners and peers.
Joining ICCA is an important step for us, as it will allow us to connect with the wider international community, share experiences, and progress collectively towards more responsible and impactful meetings.
