This Month we get to know MAG International Advertising Co., Ltd.:
What was your motivation to join ICCA?
As a mature enterprise with over a decade of experience in China’s domestic MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry, MAG International Advertising Co., Ltd. has built a comprehensive one-stop service system covering conference planning, multilingual execution, and cross-border resource integration, leveraging the unique policy advantages of the "Cross-border Cooperation Demonstration Zone."
Currently, our location—the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone—is in a phase of accelerated development. Among the national strategic positioning for Hengqin’s development, three points are closely tied to the MICE industry:
1. Building an international exhibition platform: Supporting Guangdong and Macao in exploring the organization of an international high-quality consumer expo alongside the World Bay Area Forum, with the goal of creating an exhibition platform with global influence.
2. Facilitating international talent mobility: Formulating policies to attract and gather high-end international talents, with a strong focus on recruiting "high-level, sophisticated, and in-demand" professionals. Eligible high-end international talents will be granted significant convenience for entering and exiting the Cooperation Zone, with improved visa policies for foreign talents to facilitate their participation in the Zone’s development. Additionally, efforts will be made to build a national-level offshore innovation and entrepreneurship base for overseas talents.
3. Promoting the development of international tourism and leisure industries: Developing Hengqin into a high-level international leisure tourism island, supporting Macao’s development as a world tourism and leisure center, and vigorously advancing tourism-related sectors in the Cooperation Zone—such as leisure vacations, meetings and exhibitions, and sports event tourism—as well as big health industries including wellness and rehabilitation medicine.
Aligning with China’s strategic directions and global MICE industry trends, we deeply recognize the necessity of integrating into ICCA’s global conference ecosystem. Our strategic considerations for applying to join ICCA focus on three key aspects:
1. Quality Benchmarking: Leveraging ICCA’s global certification framework to systematically elevate our service standards, with a particular emphasis on enhancing professional capabilities in areas such as international conference bidding, data management systems, and sustainable event practices.
2. Global Connectivity: Gaining direct access to bidding opportunities for international association conferences and establishing strategic connections with global industry decision-makers, thereby unlocking new development channels for the company.
3. Competitive Differentiation: Using ICCA membership as a trust endorsement to establish a differentiated advantage in the Asia-Pacific conference market, ultimately attracting more international academic conferences and industry summits to be hosted in the Greater Bay Area.
In summary, we aspire to drive transformative development for MAG through the ICCA platform, equipping the company with a longer-term development trajectory and a broader global perspective.
What sets Zhuhai Hengqin Mag International Advertising Co., Ltd apart?
The unique advantages (or "core competitiveness") of MAG International Advertising Co., Ltd. are mainly reflected in five dimensions: "geographical and policy dividends, end-to-end service capabilities, experienced team and case accumulation, cross-sector resource integration, and digital innovation capabilities".
1. Geographical and Policy Dividends
As a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) service enterprise rooted in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone—a strategic hub of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area—the company fully leverages the unique policy advantages of the "Cross-border Cooperation Demonstration Zone". It has formed differentiated competitiveness especially in the linkage of Hengqin-Macao resources, cross-border conference execution, and regional industrial services. The company deeply participates in core projects in Hengqin and the Greater Bay Area, is familiar with the policy connection and industrial needs of both Hengqin and Macao, and can provide customers with customized solutions adapted to regional development. Relying on its geographical advantages to serve cross-border cooperation projects, it has unique advantages in helping customers connect resources in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and along the "Belt and Road".
2. End-to-End Service Capabilities
The company has built an end-to-end service system driven by two business units: "event planning + digital marketing", forming a complete closed loop from top-level brand design to on-site execution, and avoiding the limitations of single-link services. It realizes integrated services covering "online traffic attraction - brand communication - offline conversion". The company also provides a 360° brand management solution ranging from "brand strategy (positioning, values) - visual design (VI, IP image) - communication and promotion (materials, new media) - asset operation", with service cases covering multiple fields such as government, state-owned enterprises, technology, automobiles, and cultural tourism.
3. Experienced Team and Case Accumulation
The company has rich industry experience and high customer trust. Its core team has more than a decade of experience in China’s domestic MICE and marketing industry, is familiar with the needs of customers in different industries, and provides customers with cutting-edge perspectives and solutions. It has served over 100 enterprises and organizations in total, with customers covering government agencies, large state-owned enterprises, well-known private enterprises, and international brands. Many of its projects have become regional benchmarks.
4. Cross-Sector Resource Integration
The company is not limited to serving a single industry; instead, it takes "resource integration" as its core capability to meet the differentiated needs of different types of customers such as governments, enterprises, and social organizations. In terms of industry coverage breadth, its service fields include urban branding, technology industry, cultural tourism and MICE, government services, and public welfare and people’s livelihood. It can quickly understand the business logic and communication pain points of different industries and provide customers with "one-stop solutions".
5. Digital and Creative Innovation
The company improves service efficiency and experience through technical means, transforming traditional promotion into interactive experiences. It excels in strengthening brand memory through IP image design. In content creation, it combines regional culture and industry characteristics to create creative content that is both communicative and professional, helping customers stand out in the fragmented market.
Which trends do you see in the Association Meetings?
Combined with MAG’s business practices and insights from industry reports, we believe the current association meetings industry is presenting diverse development trends. These trends not only reflect changes in market demand but also demonstrate the impact of technological advancement and shifts in social concepts on this sector.
1. Trend of Diversified Formats
While in-person meetings still dominate, hybrid meetings—by integrating the advantages of both online and offline formats—have also gained widespread popularity. In its actual operations, MAG flexibly selects meeting formats based on client needs and event nature. This diversified choice of meeting formats not only satisfies the needs of different participants but also expands the coverage and influence of meetings. When organizing industry summits, for instance, in addition to on-site keynote speeches and exchange sessions, MAG also streams the events online simultaneously, allowing those unable to attend in person to participate, thereby achieving broader communication and interaction.
2. Trend of Technology Integration
Technology is being applied more deeply in association meetings, with technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and data-driven strategies gradually transforming the way meetings are organized and experienced. During event planning, using AI for data analysis enables in-depth understanding of participants’ interests and needs, thereby realizing personalized event recommendations and content customization to enhance participants’ engagement and satisfaction. Leveraging data-driven strategies, MAG analyzes large volumes of participant data to provide strong support for meeting planning and organization, optimizing meeting processes and services.
3. Trend of Sustainable Development
Association meetings are placing increasing emphasis on sustainability, covering environmental, economic, and social dimensions. In the implementation of projects, MAG also actively practices the concept of sustainable development. For example, when selecting event venues, it prioritizes locations with sound environmental protection facilities and practices; in the production of event materials, it uses eco-friendly materials as much as possible to reduce resource waste and environmental pollution.
4. Trend of Personalization and Experiential Focus
Participants’ demands for personalized and experiential meetings are growing—they expect more customized and immersive meeting experiences. In its services, MAG attaches great importance to participants’ personalized needs. By gaining in-depth understanding of clients’ brand concepts and target audiences, it develops tailored event solutions. In brand event planning, MAG incorporates unique creative elements and interactive sessions to enhance participants’ sense of engagement and experience, leaving a deep impression on them.
5. Trend of Cross-Sector Collaboration
Collaboration between the association meetings industry and other sectors is constantly strengthening, with cross-sector resource integration and collaborative innovation emerging as a new development direction. As a player in the industry, MAG itself is an active participant and promoter of cross-sector collaboration. In its actual business, it cooperates with clients from different industries, integrates resources from various parties, and provides one-stop brand communication and event planning services for clients. For example, when cooperating with technology enterprises to host new product launches, MAG integrates resources from multiple fields such as technology, media, and advertising, achieving the dual goals of brand promotion and product marketing.
What is an industry challenging your organisation is facing currently?
As a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) enterprise, MAG is confronted with challenges such as intense market competition, technological transformation, talent shortage, rapid changes in market demand, and unbalanced regional development. These challenges impact the company’s business expansion, service quality, and market position, requiring proactive responses to achieve sustainable development.
1. Intense Market Competition
The MICE industry is highly competitive, with numerous competitors in the market, including state-owned, private, and foreign-funded enterprises. Each of these enterprises has its own advantages, placing significant pressure on MAG in market competition. During business expansion, MAG needs to compete with other enterprises for limited customer resources and project opportunities. Particularly when facing competition from world-class enterprises, MAG must continuously enhance its own competitiveness to stand out.
2. Challenges Brought by Technological Transformation
With the rapid development of science and technology, digital and intelligent technologies are being increasingly widely applied in the MICE industry. MAG needs to keep pace with technological advancements, adapt to the application of emerging technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain in the MICE field, and improve the efficiency and quality of MICE services. In the process of exhibition organization, big data is used to analyze audience needs and behaviors to achieve precise marketing and personalized services; AI technology is applied to enhance the interactivity and experience of exhibitions. However, the rapid technological transformation also brings issues such as rising costs and a shortage of technical talents, increasing the company’s operational pressure.
3. Talent Shortage
The development of the MICE industry has led to a growing demand for professional talents, who need to possess comprehensive capabilities in market analysis, marketing planning, project management, team collaboration, and crisis response. MAG may face a talent shortage, struggling to recruit and retain outstanding MICE professionals—especially those with digital skills and innovative capabilities. This could restrict the company’s business development and innovation capacity.
4. Rapid Changes in Market Demand
Market demand is changing significantly: enterprises are more cautious in making exhibition participation decisions and have higher requirements for exhibition effectiveness. MAG needs to promptly understand changes in market demand, adjust its service strategies, and provide MICE services that better meet customer needs. Under the current economic situation, enterprises pay more attention to the output and effectiveness of exhibitions, showing little concern for promoting their brands through exhibitions. Instead, they value practical exhibition results, such as securing purchase orders and establishing new channel partnerships. MAG needs to meet these changing demands and improve exhibition effectiveness to attract more exhibitors and professional visitors.
5. Unbalanced Regional Development
The MICE industry suffers from unbalanced regional development: the MICE industry in eastern China is well-developed, while the MICE markets in central and western China as well as northern China lack vitality and have a low input-output ratio. Although MAG is located in the Pearl River Delta—a region with a relatively developed MICE industry—it may face challenges such as cultural differences and varying market environments when expanding into other regional markets. At the same time, competition within the Pearl River Delta region is also fierce, requiring MAG to continuously enhance its competitiveness in the local market.
