What trends did you see at the association meeting?
Based on ICCA-related reports and industry trends, we have identified the following recent trends presented at ICCA meetings:
(1) Significant trend of deep integration between technology and the MICE industry
Technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and VR are widely applied in conference planning, organization, and participation. At the same time, the MICE industry is increasingly focusing on emerging fields, with a continuous growth in the number of conferences in areas such as medical science, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and biotechnology. Conferences have become an important platform for promoting the development of these fields.
(2) Sustainable development becomes a priority for the industry
Organizers focus on low-carbon and environmentally friendly practices, implementing measures such as reducing food waste, using green venues, and optimizing transportation and logistics. ICCA also promotes related initiatives, accelerating the green transformation of the industry.
(3) Innovation in meeting formats: "city as venue" becomes a new trend
The 64th ICCA Global Congress used nine city landmarks to create a multi-venue immersive conference model. The event broke the limitations of a single venue by linking key landmarks across three locations, allowing professional exchanges to deeply integrate with city culture. This not only optimizes the conference experience but also activates resources across the entire area.
What industry challenges is your company currently facing?
In the process of operating the China Optics Valley Convention & Exhibition Center, we have also clearly recognized the current practical challenges. Industry competition is becoming increasingly intense, and competition for leading exhibitions and high-end conference resources is intensifying. Within the Wuhan area, there are mature exhibition venues such as the National Exhibition Center and Wuhan Living Room that divert large exhibition resources, and surrounding cities' convention and exhibition projects continue to make efforts, further intensifying the competition for high-quality exhibitions, large IPs, and high-standard conferences. At the same time, first-tier domestic exhibition cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen have significant advantages in hardware facilities, service levels, policy support, and internationalization. China Optics Valley Convention & Exhibition Center is still in the stage of catching up in attracting national and global top-tier exhibitions.
