Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword anymore. It’s a mindset, a responsibility, and an opportunity to make a real difference. As the planet faces climate change, biodiversity loss and growing environmental stress, the choices organisations and communities make today will shape tomorrow’s world. The good news? Sustainability can be hands-on, inspiring, and fun! When people actively participate in restoring nature and protecting ecosystems, sustainability stops feeling abstract and starts becoming personal, meaningful and empowering.

A real-life example of this spirit in action is the collaboration between ICCA and La Huella Verde Granada. Rather than limiting sustainability to pledges or paperwork, the ICCA Global Association Forum 2025, held in Granada from 7 to 9 July, turned climate responsibility into a shared experience by contributing directly to the LHV Forest project in the Sierra Nevada Natural Park. Delegates rolled up their sleeves, learned about forest regeneration, biodiversity and soil health, and took part in activities like seed-bomb workshops and tree planting. These activities connected global conversations with local action, proving that even large international events can leave behind green roots instead of just carbon footprints.

Global meetings and events have the power to advance ideas far beyond just their agendas. Global meetings and events can spark ideas, shift behaviours and create lasting impact. When sustainability is woven into their fabric, events become catalysts for change, benefiting both people and the planet long after the lights go out. The ICCA and Granada initiative shows how thoughtful collaboration can turn a single gathering into a legacy of regeneration, education and hope. In a rapidly changing world, it’s a reminder that every action counts — and that building a more sustainable future can be as engaging as it is essential.
