This Month we get to know better Kit Royal Tropical Institute
What was your motivation to join ICCA?
The main motivation for KIT to join ICCA is to source prospective International clients within the medical industry and understand their needs in connection with KIT as a venue for congresses for several days.
KIT is also interested in networking possibilities achieving more sales and knowledge of how medical events work.
Tell us your story. How did KIT Royal Tropical Institute get started?
KIT Royal Tropical Institute was founded in 1910 as the ‘Colonial Institute’ to study the tropics and to promote trade and industry in the colonial territories of the Netherlands. It was founded by the Ministry of the Colonies, the City of Amsterdam, the Artis Royal Zoo, and prominent businesses active in the Dutch colonies.
Since 1926, KIT has been housed in a historic, neo-renaissance building at the edge of the Oosterpark specially designed by the architect J.J. van Nieukerken and his sons. The building has been designated as a national monument.
What sets KIT Royal Tropical Institute apart?
Sustainable Development is what sets KIT apart: Today KIT Royal Tropical Institute is an independent centre of expertise and education for sustainable development, and its collective of more than 80 international experts assist governments, NGOs, and private corporations around the world to build inclusive and sustainable societies. At the same time, the building plays a key role in this mission by providing space for new and like-minded organisations to thrive.
Launched in September 2017, the SDG House is now home to more than 50 organisations and acts as a catalyst for sustainability initiatives: a place to meet, exchange ideas, identify synergies, and build enduring partnerships.
Today, KIT stands as a beacon to those seeking innovation, education, and collaboration in sustainable development. Furthermore, all profits made are put back into the organisation to be used again within the organisation.
What can we expect to see from KIT Royal Tropical Institute in the future?
We strive to become an International organisation with more medical events taking place at the KIT in the future.
What is an industry challenge your organisation is facing currently?
The challenge that KIT is facing is to attract and maintain business at the level of before the covid period.
