1 March 2020 marks a very special day for ICCA Asia Pacific Office as we welcome Lavendra Raja, the newest addition to the team as a Research intern! In order to undertake more comprehensive research projects, ICCA Asia Pacific Office has collaborated with Management & Science University (MSU), which is among QS’s world’s top 100 young universities, to introduce an inaugural internship program for the first time in history since the Regional Office’s establishment in 1998. The program is part of the ICCA Asia Pacific Office | Global Research Centre’s objective to expand the scope and scale of advanced research projects, as well as to offer a learning opportunity to groom young talents.

Lavendra Raja, a graduate with Diploma in Business Management from Management & Science University (MSU), will be attached to the ICCA Asia Pacific Office, assisting the Research team with the ever-increasing research projects and day-to-day tasks. Lavendra will be working closely with the team to work on several short-term projects throughout his journey with ICCA in the next coming months, which we hope will be a mind opener for Lavendra and other students on what this industry entails.

Lavendra spent his first month with the Asia Pacific Team working on an ad-hoc project in collaboration with CIMERT (Center of International Meetings Research and Training, Supported by ICCA) to monitor the status of meetings in the Association Database due to COVID-19. The project involved a thorough “mapping” of global meetings scheduled to take place in the first two quarter of the year to identify event postponements, cancellations and relocation.

Nor Naimah Nasarudin, ICCA Data Research Executive Asia Pacific, is the “Supervisor” of this first-ever internship program. It is hoped that the program will attract young bright minded talents to consider possible career opportunity within this amazing events industry, at the same time recruiting the right candidate who will positively contribute to the work that we are doing.

The Research’s internship programme is structured not only to provide young talents with an insight of the ever-growing meetings industry, but also enable young talents to gain first-hand exposure of working in the real world by integrating learning experiences & competencies which are aligned with their academic goals. ICCA Asia Pacific Office looks forward to working with other local universities in Malaysia to pursue more internship opportunity in the future.
